IanKluft Would Like to Check-in
Who am I?
My name is Ian Kluft. I'm a software engineer, commercial pilot, flight instructor, Ham Radio operator, rocketry hobbyist and photographer.
I have installed and maintained TWiki sites at previous jobs and at non-profit organization sites. My most significant use of TWiki was installation of an infrastructure at Cisco from 2001-2005. (It's still running - I'm just not there any more.) In order to support an arbitrary number of TWiki web sites with a single software installation, the TWiki configuration file had Perl code (instead of hard-coded answers) to determine which directory to use for the TWiki path based on the web site indicated in the HTTP request that the browser was requesting. Last that I heard a few years ago, the server was hosting 400 TWiki sites. Due to project life cycles and experimentation, probably about half of those were in active use.
Another notable time I used TWiki was for the
search and recovery of the first amateur rocket launched to space. Behind the scenes, the Stratofox Aerospace Tracking Team used a password-protected TWiki to collaborate on thelogistical planning to get the team out to the desert and prepare for this event and others.
I have established publicly-accessible TWiki sites at
sbay.org,
svwux.org,
linuxpicnic.org and
stratofox.org.
What do I want?
write access to
SVN for the main branch - I can use my experience from running a large TWiki infrastructure to help wherever it's needed, subject to the rules (including the Code of Conduct) of the community.
What can I do?
I have 17 years experience with Perl and 26 years experience with C. I'm the author of the WebFetch module on
CPAN.
http://search.cpan.org/~ikluft/WebFetch-0.12/ I can also upload other new modules to
CPAN as needed.
Why do I want to do it?
Initially, this request is because of additions to WebFetch. As of version 0.13, a new module WebFetch::Output::TWiki is being added in support of some software engineering contract work for TWiki.Net (now Twiki Inc.) In discussion with Peter Thoeny, we thought that a cron job to automatically run WebFetch from TWiki could go either way as a part of WebFetch or an Add-On to TWiki, finally deciding on an Add-On to TWiki. So that's the first reason. But with the door open, there will be continuing opportunties to participate and contribute.
