SID-00655: Wysiwyg is not working on GoDaddy server

Status: Answered Answered TWiki version: 4.3.2 Perl version: 5.8.8
Category: WysiwygPlugin Server OS: Linux, shared GoDaddy Last update: 13 years ago

Hi guys, hoping to get some help with Wysiwyg

Just had an install done on GoDaddy and it all seems to be working OK, with the exception of the Wysiwyg editor function. If I try to edit a page, I get this error:

TWIKI/BIN/REST/WYSIWYGPLUGIN/TML2HTML: GENERAL 404 -

In plugin diagnostics I get this error: TWiki::Plugins::WysiwygPlugin could not be loaded. Errors were: Too many arguments for Encode::decode_utf8 at /home/content/c/5/6/ xxx my s stuffxxx /twiki/lib/TWiki/Plugins/WysiwygPlugin.pm line 621, near "Encode::FB_PERLQQ)" BEGIN not safe after errors--compilation aborted at /home/content/c/5/6/xxx my s stuffxxx/twiki/lib/TWiki/Plugins/WysiwygPlugin.pm line 665. Compilation failed in require at (eval 67) line 1. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at (eval 67) line 1.

In All Admin Tools Category topics it says WysiwygPlugin: (disabled), but in configure, it says WysyiwygPlugin is Enabled and the little checkbox is ticked.

Any suggestions?

Discussion and Answer

This looks like a version mismatch issue. The WysiwygPlugin documents CPAN:Encode >= 2.01 as required. Update that module if needed. See HowToInstallCpanModules, possibly in your own directory of you do not have write access to the Perl system libraries.

Thanks, I'll take a look - and stab at that.

Matter resolved

Unfortunately, I didn't actually learn how to install the Encode CPAN module although I did spend a great deal of time reading about it and trying to make sense of how to do it. Often code geeks will say stuff like....install.... or upload.... without being more specific and saying where or how, which is a real challenge for people less experienced. Instead, as a result of my reading, I came to suspect that one of the issues was the length of the pathway that was contributing to the issue. I was sharing hosting with my wife at Godaddy and my domain was not the primary. I purchased my own hosting account at Godaddy and put my site as the primary. I also posted on Godaddy's feedback about the CPAN modules not being up to date in the self-install and complained several times in various ways to Godaddy. After doing a backup of my entire site, including the wiki files, I set up my website on my new host and then used the Godaddy self-installer, which worked flawlessly. They have either updated the CPAN module in question (encode), or had it updated. It was 1.83 and is now 2.12. The WYSIWYG plugin works properly and I am working my way through changing the preferences to get my wiki back to where it was prior to the migration. It might well have been that the new install with the new CPAN module might have done the trick, but I had had other plans for my site that would have made being a sub folder on our hosting problematic, so the new arrangement is for the better.

I was pretty happy with TWiki even with the problems, but now that the plugins are working properly, I can actually start using my site comprehensively, as planned. Incidentally, for those who are interested in the site, visit: flyingbreadbin.com/twiki I will be using the wiki to record and connect the information I generate while building a two-seat experimental kit aircraft - a requirement for inspection approval by the FAA, without which it cannot be legally flown. As the next step, the site will also be used as a resource when I use the experience gained on the kitplane project in building an experimental light aircraft of my own design. Now that the wiki is functioning properly, I can start migrating a bunch of information from my hard drive to the wiki.

Good to see that you are now up and running! I will introduce you to IanKluft who is also into flying (like myself, although I am not current).

I am having the same problem as mentioned here. I wouldn't say that the matter is resolved because installing TWiki to the main website directory is not always an option (like in my case). So I have a question to follow this one.

Wouldn't it make sense that the problem is an incorrectly set configuration variable? If deploying in the main directory has it working right off the bat, and then deploying in a sub-directory breaks it, doesn't it make sense to assume a config variable is defaulting to the main directory?

If this sounds reasonable to someone who knows how TWiki works (I have no idea), then please let me know. I've poked around the TWiki file system but I can't tell if theres a single config file, or multiple config files, or which ones I might want to work with, etc....

I did open a LocalSite.cfg file residing in the /lib/ directory - as far as I can tell that .cfg file correctly handled my subdirectory location (although I have no experience with .cfg files). Is there somewhere else that might be screwing it up?

Anyway, I'd really like to get TWiki working from a subdirectory, can anyone help?

Thanks.
