Notes
- The RealTek RTL8019 and RTL8029 are NE2000 clones, use the NE2000 driver.
- The RealTek RTL8129 and RTL8139 are not NE2000 clones. Use the rtl8139 driver.
Note: There is an 8139too driver that, IIRC, I had to use on one of my installations. However, for better perfomance, use the rtl8139. See
Linux and the RealTek RTL8129/8139 Chips for some of the reasons (fairly fascinating reading).
I am not 100% clear after reading that page, maybe the 8139too driver must be used with all or some versions of the 2.4 kernel??
