To begin with, I'm installing (well, mostly installed) TWiki on a hosted site, so I don't have root access. This is my second time installing in such a situation--the first went fine, though this is with a different host. I cannot telnet to the site, which means I cannot, as far as I can figure, change ownership of the files.

So, I get everything installed, and as far as I can tell, with the exception of ownership, everything is working fine. I do some template restructuring (so far, just in view and twiki -- see it here), and I'm pretty sure this isn't the source of the problem, but hey, what do I know.

I invite some friends over to test it out, and immediately two big problems crop up:

1. RegistrationSubmitFailure . Same problem as outlined there, so I won't go into it here.

2. Additionally, though, I've had multiple people opening up a page to edit it, and not getting the warning message, at all. I thought perhaps since I didn't have it set to Remember Remote User, that could be the problem; I set $doRememberRemoteUser = "1" and that did not solve it. I'd like to try to set up authentication, however, that's leading me back to problem 1 (and, since I can't telnet, adding users manually is a bit sticky). (Actually, between typing this up and posting it, someone pointed me to Webextractions, which features a tool for creating .htpsswd entries.)

Quick update: I've manually added the .htpsswd entries, and the multiple edit locking is now working. Does the lock need authentication to work? Should it? That seems somewhat counter to what I've gathered is the wiki spirit. It's not a big deal at this point, but I was hoping to keep things unauthenticated.

This may be more usefully moved elsewhere, I'm not sure.
