Question

I have a problem with searching for a literal string (i.e. two words in quotes) across all webs.

I'm searching for the string "fixed text" (including quotes) which is in one topic in our 'Manuals' web multiple times.

No results are displayed. In fact, it does not even display the "Searched: *fixed text*" at the top. There is nothng between the "Web Search" heading and the search grey box.

If I remove the quotes and search for just fixed text, then it finds quite a few topics including the one in our Manuals web.

Also, if I try the search in the Manuals web itself, then it returns the correct result. But in any other web the search returns nothing.

I have checked in the data/debug.txt, data/warn200612.txt, data/log200612.txt and Apache2 logs and there is nothing untoward in those files.

If I try /bin/grep -i -H -- "fixed text" *.txt in the data/Manuals sub-directory, then it returns results for the topic I'm looking for.

The path in the configure, store settings section for egrep looks fine.

I have tried the Advanced Search also and it does the same for all different combinations

Anybody got any ideas where I can look next?

about two weeks ago, i have addressed this concern with peter. It is a known bug but I am not sure if the bug was submitted to the bug web. nevertheless, peter is looking into this issue

This is Bugs:Item3261, fix pending at this time.

Peter, I think I have found the source of this problem. I have edited the details of the Bugs Item you refer to above.

Is there a proper way to report this?

Thanks, I'll take it from there.

Thanks, Peter.

On a slightly related note, the "Number of topics:" value does not appear to be correct. It looks like it is just showing how many topics it found in the last Web, not all of them.

For example, if you go to my User page, there is an inline search of the topics that have my name and it reports a "Number of topics: 3" but there are 14 topics found across all webs. However, the last Web (Support) has 3 hits.
