Summary

Wireless Offline Backup

Salient features:

1. FREE service and Free hard disk space to backup files for mobile devices (media files - images,avi,mp3; sms messages)
2. Wireless connectivities - WIFI (Wireless@SG), GPRS, 3G
3. User first registers via our web portal and then download the smart client and agent into their device
4. The service is free of charge on the condition that the user allows us to send SMS advertisments to her. Of course we will not spam the users with unnecessary SMSes. The SMS advertisements are filtered according to the user's preferences and liking. Ie. Free service in exchange for user's information)
5. The Smart client includes a small database to store the configurations such as IP/port number of the backup server. The user can use the smart client to configure the agent behaviour. Eg. What files to backup and what is the frequency of backup (as and when there is WIFI or when signal strength is high).
6. The Smart client allows quick files recovery for all subscribers. In the event of lost of mobile devices, user is able to restore her files as and when they connected to our server.
7. Compression at the device before transmiting to server.
8. Secured storage and data confidentiality. (Use of encryption, authentication)

There may not be time to complete the stories described above but we will at least complete the mobile agent to do the proof of concept.

Revised features

1. Smart client can be downloaded onto user device after registering using her mobile number as User Id.
2. Smart client allows users to select and backup files to a remote server (Backup Network Operation Centre).
3. The files are compressed and encrypted before sending to the server and only the user has the key to decrypt
4. User can synchronise/backup with a click of a button (Easy Button?)
5. In case of the loss of data due to loss of HP, user can recover her files from the remote server with a click of a button.
6. Before recovery is done, an SMS message will be sent to the user to confirm her identity. The SMS contains a session key to initiate the recovery process.

Future enhancements

1. Mobile files manageable on web portal. In future, user may use their password to decrypt the files backup and stored on remote server, and display its on webpage for viewing or editing purpose.
2. Mobile files are editable on web interface is benefit especially when user trying to edit their address book, which able to synchronise back to mobile device eventually.
