How about having a SpecialAdminPage? (in fact being a script like view) This page should only be usuble for users of the TWikiAdminGroup.

  • With this "page" various admin tasks should be easy accessible.
  • Security should be a great issue for this script.

This needs more detail before it can really be considered a FeatureEnhancementRequest.

How about

  1. Create web ( & subweb and subsubweb, etcetc)
  2. Revert topic to previous revision / delete revision
  3. Delete user from password list

for starters?

Also interesting about how you split this up, after all I have different people administrate different areas and so I would want them to be able to affect only their own areas.

I think weŽd also have to agree on the right topic name(s).

I like the idea, even though I see that most of the requested functionality could be achieved with a normal web page with links to the scripts.

What about having a "privileged" sub-web, that is something like Webname.Admin_group.TopicName, that all the scripts recognize and completely ignore unless the user is part of the corresponding "Admin_group" group.

It should also extend to the links themselves, that is we should have the option of doing something like %MEMBER(Admin_group){   * Go to Webname.Admin_group.TopicName For administrative purposes }%

This would also solve (or be a way of implementing) some of the issues brought up in ReadAccessPermission.

I like Edgar's suggestion to have a seperate privileged Web - that lets us have a Configuration Web that we can use for Installation and configuration of everything - this might make upgrading the settings easier (especially if we have a way of controlling the topics in that web

I put together all pages I need as admin into TWiki.AdminTools, on my test Twiki I added even links to CSS and logs.

-- PeterMasiar - 27 Nov 2003

This is good. Would you agree that it would be better as two topics, AdminTools and UserTools? On user tools we could also show the users webnotify subscriptions etc.

Core Team: will this make CairoRelease?

-- MartinCleaver - 27 Nov 2003

I would have thought that revert topic to previous revision / delete revision would be best placed on the more page. We could do that now, there would just be the issue of users being able to see it but not use it properly.

As I understand it, seeing that Arthur has done so much work on PatternSkinCodeChanges it doesn't seem worth it to fiddle with the interaction patterns until this is released. Arthur says he has to do some work to do on this before releasing the code to the public. With this in mind it seems we have no option but just to wait.

Is there any way now using the core code to include content base on group membership, even if only for TWikiAdminGroup. If not then I think Edgar's %MEMBER( TWiki Group ){ Content for that group }% idea should be implemented and a new feature request should be made for it.

-- SamHasler - 28 Nov 2003

Sounds like a good feature, I wonder whether Edgar is still around and would like to implement it. Oh, I doubt it, it was over 2 years ago. Hmm. I wonder whether Pattern Skin implements this any other way? Indeed, it would not surprise me if we have this feature embedded in a skin.
