I've given up on my more ambitious goals, now that I know the reality of the current code base. So here are my (sadly minimal) set of goals now:

Speed things up

Not a clue if it's possible. That is, I suspect not, given what appears to be the dependency of everything on everything else, but I'm obviously not the best person to evaluate this.

Create user-friendly documentation

FAQs, how-tos, etc. And make it possible for users to find them.

Create a developer-friendly Codev

• Move archaic ones to a Graveyard web. At the very least, get them out of the distribution.
• Document important stuff like "How to write a plugin" with good information about handlers and such
• Find some way of finding important stuff.
• Refactor dreadfully long pages
• Bring docs up to date.
