Internal mailto links are not properly linked. That is, these do not link as they should. Rather than linking to the internal mailto link, they try to link to a webpage. This, of course, shows up as a "TWikiBroken" link.
- [[ted@tedpavlic.com]]
- [[mailto:ted@tedpavlic.com]]
- [[ted@tedpavlic.com][E-mail me]]
Test case
While the links work, the internal links (i.e., within [[...]]) do not.
A few tests
A workaround (
this shows expected output of the above) (
note that STOPSPAM was explicitly added to mimmick Plugin)

Follow up
The basic linking syntax is documented at
TextFormattingRules near the end - perhaps it should be put under external links, but the docs are there. MAILTHISTOPIC is in
TWikiPreferences - again, the docs could be improved, so that people can go to
TWiki:TWiki
not the Codev pages for docs.
Improved reviewing and editing of TWiki docs would catch cases where an edit is perhaps not in the right place.
EmailThisPageLink is where this feature is discussed.
Some working examples using correct syntax are as follows - I think there is one bug here:

But that's not very satisfying. It seems odd to me that even though the internal link would be parsed as a link externally, internally it tries to parse it like a TWiki web page.
To me I'd think that the outcome of AWorkingLink should always be the same as [[AWorkingLink]]. If it works externally, simply wrapping it up as an internal link should also be okay. Consider when you turn of autolinking. What if I turn off autolinking and still want to link to an e-mail address? It seems like it would be nice if I could just wrap my e-mail address in [[ ... ]], but instead I have to format it very differently.
I'll try to put together a patch tonight that suggests a different way of doing this. Maybe I'm being picky, but I just don't think the current operation makes much sense.

The correct external
URL for mail is always mailto:
Address. A correct external
URL for HTTP is always
http://
foo.bar . Forcing external notation for things outside (ala
InterWiki links) strikes me as a very sensible thing - indeed for users it helps explain the whole
InterWiki linking idea in my experience. However in the spirit of the
WikiWay when referencing someone's email highlighting it as a suitable link is what should be done
because twiki knows it's a semantic link . However the only reason to use the [[ ]] notation for email is when you're doing something specific (like "email me"). As a result making it explicit about being an external link strikes me as sensible.
I'd
personally vote this as
BugRejected.
That's my tuppence worth. YMMV

I have turned on spam proofing and I changed the copyright notice on my
TWiki
to use the mailto recommended at
SpamProofing :
http://md1ddel1.squareonehosting.com/cgi-bin/bin/view/TWiki/TWikiPreferences
the mailto works fine on the Twiki
web but it does not work on other webs
I have no idea where to look to diagnose this problem.

Fix record
OK, I've looked at this and read the discussion, and I think the current support is just fine; this is icing on the cake. So I'm rejecting it for Dakar. If anyone feels strongly about it they can schedule for another release.
