Upgrade develop.twiki.org Server, 2006
The develop.twiki.org server is on an aging entry level server, hosted by
EV1Servers.net for $100/month (
PeterThoeny is donating that to the twiki project for three years now)
We got a generous offer from Fastservers.net to host a server for free:
JeffLink is offering an AMD Athlon 3000+, 80GB HD, 1GB RAM. Thank you very much for the very generous offer! We will place a "hosted by" logo on develop.twiki.org, and will mention it on the twiki.org home page.
Tasks & Status
Discussion
Our infrastructure is as follows:
- 1.
twiki.org: Donated Sun V240, hosted for free by Fastmetrics
, 2 SPARC processors, 4GB RAM, 2 mirrored 60 GB drives
- 2.
develop.twiki.org: Aging 1.6 GHz server, 512MB(?) RAM, hosted by EV1Servers.net for $100/month
- being replaced by this new 3GHz Athlon with 1GB RAM
- 3.
tinderbox.twiki.org (pending) to test the latest TWiki with all Plugins
Our immediate need is new hardware for 2. develop.twiki.org because the current server is painfully
slow, and also to ease my bank account. I have a potential sponsor for the tinderbox.
Please bring forward your feedback, needs, and offer to help.

It's hard to offer help without knowing what the plan is, but anything I can do to ease the transition from the current box, give me a shout.

Moved a few items over from
EdinburghReleaseMeeting2006x03x20. There were no comments on the need to appoint secondary admins - I s'pose you're able to do with the admin load as is?

A way to improve pod doc quality: If we install the
PerlDocPlugin on the new develop server we can test the pod documentation easily: Create a topic for every module that extracts the latest pod from the module. If we name the topics Pod-lib-TWiki-pm, Pod-lib-TWiki-Net-pm, etc it is easy to list the topics in an index page (possibly modify with CALC into a real tree). Hmm, should that go into the TestCases web?
