I have been stuck at version 4.1.2 for some time now, and I would very much like to upgrade my site to the latest version, and to keep the site current from that point onward. I found the last upgrade (4.0.5 to 4.1.2) to be quite time consuming and laborious, and I am still concerned that there are some quirks that I can't quite figure out how to fix.
I haven't made very many customizations, just a few small changes to the Pattern skin in order to hide action buttons on published versions of topics, and no other custom development.
It looks like there has been great effort in creating upgrade packages for easing the upgrade process from later versions, which is great.
I am looking for the best, easiest, most fail-safe way to upgrade my current instance to the current TWiki version, since I can't use the upgrade packages for later versions, and since step-by-step instructions don't exist. There are general, overview steps, but these do not give details on what specifically needs to be done.
There is also a 'Important Changes since 4.1.2' section, which seems like it would be helpful, but the section doesn't provide much information on upgrading from this release to the current version.
If someone has real world experience in migrating from an earlier version, such as 4.1.2, to the current version, sharing this experience would be incredibly useful and appreciated.
