SID-00277: Getting Registration page instead of Login

I have just switched from TemplateLogin to ApacheLogin and have one niggling problem. If "ErrorDocument 401 /twiki/bin/view/TWiki/TWikiRegistration" is set in the apache config then clicking on Login give you Registration page--no login popup. If ErrorDocument isn't set then everything works fine.

What gives?

If you are using Short URL's then the 401 document must be the short version of the url Otherwise the redirect for some reason skips the password prompt.
