SID-00082: Special tools needed to edit documents in a wiki

Status: Answered Answered TWiki version: Perl version:
Category: CategoryDocumentation Server OS: Windows Last update: 17 years ago

I am a twiki newbie and have some general questions about the logistics of editing documents in a wiki. Say I have a FrameMaker document and I upload it and request feedback. Do I first save it as an HTML file and then upload it so reviewers can edit online? Or say I upload a PDF and request feedback. Do the reviewers need Acrobat Pro to use the commenting function online? When documents are uploaded are they converted to HTML and reviewers can edit the HTML file? I have apparently missed the fine print in all my reading that explains this process. Are there plugins (I see there's an MSWordtoTwiki plugin, for example) that render an uploaded document editable by anyone? I am vague on the details here and need clarification. If you could please answer these questions or direct me to the right source, I would be grateful. I apologize if this question has already been asked and answered. Thanks--

Discussion and Answer

You could create a page in TWiki, attach the document, and add a %COMMENT% box in the body of the TWiki page. People would click on the attachment (open up with browser associated application, such as Word or Adobe Reader), and provide feedback in the TWiki page.

There are some discussions on an AnnotationPlugin, but no code yet. That would make it much easier to annotate documents.

If you are looking to convert documents to TWiki format see Extensions:import.
