Invisible (or hidden) file: A file that is hidden and not normally seen unless the -a parameter is given in ls. These hidden files are usually important config files that do not need to be changed often and therefore that is the reason for being hidden (to prevent accidental removal). To delete a hidden file another special tag must be used in rm.
A file is made invisible (in Linux) by starting the filename with a "." (period).
