E-MAIL OPTIONS AND SETTINGS CUSTOMIZATION
Each E-mail program comes with different
e-mail options and settings that you can customize.
These can be found under different menu commands such as tools and mail preferences. Please use your help function in your e-mail program as a resource for which
e-mail options and settings you can customize.
Some of the more general
e-mail options and settings customizations allowed in most e-mail programs are as follows:
- Play sound when new message arrives.
- On startup go directly to Inbox folder.
- To use preview pane for e-mail message. (note using the preview pane to view e-mail messages may trigger e-mail viruses in the same way as if you were actually opening the e-mail.)
- Request a confirmed read receipt from the person to whom you are sending the e-mail. (This should be unchecked and used only on a per e-mail basis, otherwise you will have an e-mail return to you for every e-mail you send. This could quickly use up storage space.)
- Save a copy of sent messages.
- Send messages immediately when "send" button is clicked.
- Automatically complete e-mail addresses when composing an e-mail.
- Always include e-mail message in reply.
- Use HTML in e-mail messages. (Again this option should be set to text only for most e-mail programs as HTML e-mail requires much more space and is more likely to be vulnerable to e-mail viruses.)
- How long to keep deleted e-mail messages in trash folder or empty them immediately when your e-mail program is closing.
There are several more e-mail options and settings that you can customize. Most of these are check boxes, checked means "yes" and unchecked means "no". Again your personal experiences with e-mail messages will determine your e-mail preferences with regards to
e-mail options and settings customizations.
