Question
I am running Twiki under Windows using the Apache Web Server - which largely works. But, when I try to edit a page (by clicking the Edit or Attach link) and I enter my authorisation data (name and password... three times... correctly), I am presented with the page of source code that would normally be used to generate the
TwikiRegistration page. Obviously, I do not want my users to access the code for the registration form - it is anyway write protected.
Why is this authorisation process failing? The registration process seems to otherwise work well in that I can add users. Can this problem have something to do with Windows and Apache or are my Perl scripts in error? Please give me a clue where I should be looking!

So, is the problem that you're not able to authenticate anyone? That is, even with correct names and passwords, you're told to register, rather than being allowed to edit? Or is the problem that whichever page you try to edit, it only brings up the TWiki_Registration text?

Yes - we are not able to authenticate anybody in that when they correctly enter their name and password (as entered in the registration form) all they get (after the third attempt) is the HTML code used to generate the
TwikiRegistration page. The user remains without any editing rights!

I'm using the May 2000 release on Linux. I had the triple-authentication problem, and managed to fix it by tweaking the .htaccess file (I don't have that file at hand since I'm at home today, but you can email me and I'll send it to you tomorrow.)
As for the script's text appearing - I had this on all CGI scripts initially. Check the ordering of the ScriptAlias and Alias statements in your Apache httpd.conf - see
DocumentationScriptAliasMustScanFirst - however, your problem is not quite the same as this. You should also check to see if you have to do something special to get the CGI scripts to execute under Apache on Windows - see the installation docs.
By the way, I think that
KnownIssuesOfTWiki01May2000 should be prominently linked from the Support web, or perhaps moved there from Codev.

Hi Richard, by changing the ScriptAlias and Alias statements in the http.conf file I got the same failure. I email'd you last week but I got no answer. Is the address for RichardDonkin correct?

Answer
Not sure if this is the case, but read
ApachePasswords.

Question
I think your Description on
ApachePasswords of
Encrypted passwords on Windows is the problem. I'm not sure how to modify the register script because I'm no programmer. Could you give me some informations about it?
