SID-01907: Centering pages but including the top skin menu itself

Status: Answered Answered TWiki version: 6.0.0 Perl version: 5.008008
Category: CategorySkin Server OS: RHEL 5.10 Last update: 11 years ago

I have followed the guidance on PatternSkinCssCookbookCenterPage and have the same issue as shown on the link itself - whilst the page is centred, the top menu bar has fallen off the right hand side of the screen.

Ideally we would like it to look similar to twiki.org - and I am lacking the necessary knowledge to figure out how to do this. Guess it makes sense as the the TopMenuSkin is an addon to the PatternSkin so I am perhaps missing some additional css?!

Please note, at the moment, we do not want to centre the whole twiki site or even a whole twiki web but just a WebHome page of a web.

Any pointers / guidance would be appreciated. Can anyone help please?

Discussion and Answer

Enclose the topic content in a div tag with css to center it. Example:

I added sticky tags to prevent the WYSIWYG editor from interfering with the HTML.

Your response is appreciated Peter but maybe I wasn't clear (or have not quite understood how to apply your suggestion for what we would like to achieve).

We want a similar look to the centred page as at the link http://twiki.org/ itself (where the top menu has been centred along with the page so the RHS menus - such as the 'Account' - are still accessible) - as opposed to losing the end of the top menu as the case when following the advice for PatternSkinCssCookbookCenterPage

We only want a centred page (and menu) for one single topic in the web (the front page). The remainder of the web (and twiki site) should be the default as is here (as in not centred).

Sorry - changing status back to asked question - if anyone can advise

Assuming no one is able to help with this - will close as unanswered in a week if there is no response, but thanks anyway. But one final attempt to prompt a solution from someone (though we will continue trying) ....

We followed the advice on PatternSkinCssCookbookCenterPage but the menu is unaligned and the RHS is lost (i.e. the Account and shareme buttons). Ideally the menu would be

  • centred with the rest of the page (like on the homepage of twiki.org) or
  • alternatively the menu itself taking the full width of the screen, whilst the rest of the top bar and page is centred so we can apply a colored background behind the page (but important that the solution does not distort the aligment of the text of the menu items)

As long as we have the whole menu accessible.

What may (or may not) help someone provide me with an answer.................. one of my colleagues found out by mistake that when adding the syntax for ending a dashboard, the menu itself takes the full screen which would be fine for us but the problem is the menu items are then centred instead of left aligned. Possibly something to do with more closed div tags than opening div tags or similar.

The TopMenuSkin needs to be fixed to support PatternSkinCssCookbookCenterPage. In open source spirit, you could investigate and supply a patch, or you could hire a TWiki consultant to do that for you.
