SID-01429: LDAP Synchronization No Longer Working

I got LdapContrib working and configured on my server. It's currently running Ubuntu 11.04 Server.

After doing the inital configuration, I got it working and synchronizing users. But as of a month a go, it has stopped synching and is not reporting any errors. And I also cannot find any logs of it.

The only changes that have occurred is that we've decided to use a new format for login names, and we've changed that setting in TWiki/LdapContrib settings. And only noticed this when the new usernames were not working.

We've turned Debug for LdapContrib on, and tried to run ./view refreshldap=on Main/WebHome and nothing happens. We only get a message saying "LdapContrib - Warning - Already Updating Cache".

The LdapContrib is relatively hard to debug. There are many debug statements that are commented out. I recommend to set the debug flag to 10 and to remove the comment-outs of the debug statements in lib/TWiki/Contrib/LdapContrib.pm. Good luck!

The LdapContrib has other issues, such as performance issues if you have >10k users in LDAP. It would be helpful for the TWiki community if someone would sponsor a rewrite of this code.

Thanks for that Peter. Good place to start. We'll have a go at looking at it. Would it be advisable to reinstall?

Also we'll look at seeing what's required to rewrite it and see if we can get someone to do some part time work on it or what's required to sponsor the rewrite.

Oh, fixed and found the problem. The cache.db_tmp file, which I thought was meant to exist needed to be removed. Once it was removed, everything worked properly. Only found that this file was meant to be removed after updates after reviewing the LdapContrib.pm file.

Thanks anyway. Still, we'll look into what's required in sponsoring a rewrite and may commit some of our business resources to it.
