Question

This is OT (sorry), but seeing this page mentioned in the email of recent changes and then finding that the topic does not exist raises two questions:

  • Isn't this somewhat user unfriendly behavior? I mean, I was told (in the email) that this page exists, and when I come to look at it, it is gone (or never existed). Maybe it was totally spam, maybe it was a misnamed question. If the former, maybe I'm Ok with not knowing any more (keep reading)--if a misnamed question it would seem to be a nice thing to point out where the question went (the new name). (And if that were the rule (and maybe it is?) then I could assume that it was spam, now deleted, and I have no reason to want to track down the now missing page.) And, on the other hand, I could wait until tomorrow, where, assuming it was a misnamed page, I would find the new correctly named page.

  • When I came to this page, I found the following at the top of the page:

r10 - 27 Mar 2005 - 13:14:15 - TWikiContributor
You are here: TWiki > Support Web > CanwehaveaSubWebSearch

    • At the moment, I'm confused about how to interpret that--does that mean that revision 10 of this page existed (i.e., 10 prior revisions), and now the page is just deleted with no pointer to it?

    • And, if I recreate this page (which I'm about to do), will I then regain access to those 10 prior revisions? (I apparently can't get to them "now" while the page does not exist.) (I may or may not revise this after saving and seeing if I get access to those prior revisions--if you read this page you should be able to tell by looking at the bottom of the page.)--Ok, I came back, and I cannot get access to those 10 prior revisions that might have existed, and that area at the top of the page now looks like:

ALERT! If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.

I sometimes rename new support topics. In above case, see renamed topic at CanWeHaveaSubWebSearch.
