Question

What platform and hardware does this site run on. And why is performance so poor? I'm trying to understand timing and sizing for a Twiki based site.

Answer

TWiki.org is currently hosted on SourceForge. They have around 5 load-balanced web servers with a storage backend serving almost 100K projects and 1M users. -- Slow performance for regular CGI scripts.

At work we have a dual 2.6GHz Intel system with 2MB RAM serving 1000 users with 200K page actions per month. -- Good performance with average access time of below 0.5 sec for simple pages. (Running SpeedyCGI on RedHat Enterprise Linux)
