Question

Can I utilize Twiki server as a Newsgroup Server? Please guide.

TWiki version: TWikiRelease01Feb2003
TWiki plugins: DefaultPlugin, EmptyPlugin, InterwikiPlugin
Server OS: Red Hat Linux
Web server: Apache
Perl version: NA
Client OS: NA

Answer

No, if you mean NewsGroups implemented using NNTP - if you mean discussion forums, you might be able to use the CommentPlugin and/or the discussion forum addon (see Plugins web).

You can run a separate NNTP server on the same host as the TWiki server, and have some integration - I wrote an RSS feed generator for the Newsportal web interface to newsgroups, meaning that you could have a TWiki page showing new messages in newsgroups, through the HeadlinesPlugin taking the newsgroup RSS feed as input. NewsGroups has more about this.

TWiki is a platform for web applications. You can build discussion forums that have elements of newsgroups. See DiscussionForumAddOn for one example.
