Question

Is there any way to rename users -- i.e., to change a username? I understand it's not as simple as renaming a user topic page. A number of users with usernames we'd like to change have already contributed to the TWiki I administer, or else I'd have them create new users for themselves with their preferred usernames.

Environment

TWiki version: TWikiRelease02Sep2004

Perl version: 5.8.0
Client OS: Ubuntu Linux, Dapper Drake

Answer

ALERT! If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.

Do this:

  • Rename the user topic, fixing links in all webs
  • Edit the Main.TWikiUsers topic and move the renamed account to the proper place (in ASCII order)
  • Edit the data/.htpasswd file and fix the account name (does not apply if users are authenticated externally such as via LDAP)
