This plugin could be useful for systems administrators who need to know the the status of their devices. It may be particularly useful if the user does not have direct access to the devices when, for exampme, the admin is at home or out of town.
This plugin uses the snmp unix commands and even though NET-SNMP does supply a Perl API, I found the results I needed easier (more reliable) using the unix commands.
As the commands take some time (max 10 seconds - default timeout) to return information its not recommended to query too much information within one topic. I see this more as a tool for getting a quick snapshot of a device without having to worry about connecting to it or remembering network commands.

err, nice++

- while i don't use SNMP much anymore (since i stopped admining much) - very very useful tool!

Note that SNMP can also be leveraged to manage and monitor
applications as long as the applications are written such that their status and controls are exposed via SNMP. The framework was designed to do just this - a general management framework.
So, it would be nice if TWiki could be monitored and managed via SNMP!

It is amazing to see in how many ways TWiki is being deployed. Thanks Peter for sharing this Plugin with the
TWikiCommunity
I made two small changes to the Plugin topic, feel free to take it back into the next release:
- Better not to link to itself
- Shorter SHORT_DESCRIPTION, aligned with other descriptions.
- Added your signature so that the "Submitted by" column in PluginPackage lists your name

It appears that the HTML::Entities and HTML::Tagset are dependencies. I could not get this plugin working until I installed these modules. Should I update the install guide?, or am I mistaken? BTW: Very Cool plugin

I will be doing some development around this plugin, I would like the option of the target(SNMP agent) being an option from a pull-down the same with the OID. This plugin is Great stuff.

Hello
I did not intend for this to these dependencies. If you would liek to take this plugin further then please go ahead.

It seems that these we do already have
perl-HTML-Tagset-3.03-28
installed. Why do you think that these are needed?
