I guess this could be planted under fantasy or daydream, but it would be interesting to use Wiki styled applications under alternative protocols or on unusual servers. This isn't necessarily something that would match the current TWiki's goals but I thought I'd share the idea anyway.
One idea involves new servers like Freenet and Gnutella that allows data to be shared and distributed amond a large number of servers. I this case the data would be wiki pages and attached data. You add the capability of editing the pages to the other features that these or other services might provide.

Another is to use a server that is embedded in another type of application such as a MUD or VR system.
LambdaMOO users have managed to create systems that allow web pages, VR models, and even multimedia to be distributed from a
LambdaMOO server. MOOs use objects in a text based virtual reality similar in function to the old text based adventures and role playing games.
LambdaMOO defines objects using an internal scripting language and some databases contain objects at act as HTTP, FTP, and mail servers. The HTTP servers take individual objects and use their descriptions as webpages, so every object is a webpage. That feature could (possibly) be extended to allow an edit link on the web page so that the page can be edited. That would be an interesting experiment, I think.

See some of the discussion at
TWikiXML. First stage plan after moving to xml and getting the http-face to the xml-store is getting some sort of email-face. Once that works its hould be rather easy to build further protocols interfaces on top of that. The ideal being plugable protocol handlers.
