Textpattern (http://textpattern.com/) is a much anticipated but waaaaay overdue blog/cms/wiki/whatever. Why mention something here that appears dangerous close to being vaporware? Take a look at the screen shots on the home page. The interface has touches of true simplicity/genius. There are a number of features that I wish TWiki could copy, including:
  • Quick-switching between edit and preview modes.
  • Easy insertion of links and variables.
  • Very nice, built-in CSS editing.

Their text rendering engine, Textile was mentioned in OtherSyntaxInUse.

For interesting side-trips, check out some of the tidbits listed on their home page (http://www.textism.com/), such as Evolution of Writing and Fibonacci Series.

Note that this is no longer vapor, there's downloadable code. I'm giving it a try because of Movable Type's onerous license restrictions and, so far, it is really, really, really impressive. Bit light on the documentation front but I've got it up and running within fifteen minutes of downloading the tarball, and I'm just about to put up my first post at http://eric.explosive.net/ .. We'll see how it goes from here, but I did want to make mention of it here since this is where I heard about Textpattern in the first place.
