TWiki on Palm
This is not possible yet, but PalmSource, who develop the Palm OS for PDAs and phones, have announced
Palm OS for Linux
. This is planned to be a version of
PalmOS that will run on top of Linux, to be licensed to phone, PDA and other device manufacturers.
Devices (mainly phones) are likely to come out in 2006 or so, and it is an alternative to (not replacement for)
PalmOS Garnet (5.x) and
PalmOS Cobalt (6.x)
, with similar functionality but running a standard OS at its core. Interestingly, Palm is targetting
low-end phones where existing OSs such as Windows Mobile or Symbian are considered too complex...
Since this would be 'just another Linux', it should be very easy to install TWiki as per
TWikiOn and
TWikiOnLinux. Finally, full TWiki on my Treo phone is in sight
Note that since Perl doesn't exist for
PalmOS Garnet 5.x, and is unlikely to be on
PalmOS Cobalt, there is no current way of running TWiki on Palm devices.

OperaBrowser is now available for
PalmOS, as 'Opera Mini', so it should be much easier to use Palm PDAs and smartphones as TWiki clients.

The new
Palm Foleo
is a Linux-based mini-laptop that works well with Palm OS and Windows mobile smartphones. Once it becomes available, Perl and other TWiki requirements should become available, so it could be a nice platform for a personal TWiki server.
It includes a full
OperaBrowser and a good-sized screen so it will also make a good TWiki client via
WiFi or via Bluetooth to the smartphone's data connection.

Unfortunately the plug was pulled on Foleo, with reasons.

Have things evolved over the year that make browsing twiki pages easier from a Treo?
