TWiki User Meet-Up 2008-02-23/24
FOSDEM'08 is
the european open source developers meetup.
Discussion
It just occured to me that FOSDEM is nearing, and there are probably some TWiki users attending. It would be interesting to meet up, and share experiences.
We could apply for a
lightning talk
.

Hm, good find Koen! The lightning talk will do good for TWiki!

Nice to see more meetups pop up around the world! I will ask Amir to create also an RSVP page in meetup.com.
Out of curiosity, why "TWikiMeetUpInEurope" and not a descriptive "TWikiMeetUpInBelgium"?

Because a EuropeMeetUp signals that it's bigger than a belgium meet up. I'm way more interested in joining an international meetup than joining a national belgium meet up.

From a TWiki point of view it is of more interest to nurse small, local meetups. They will have a chance to meet more often and more informally than meetups covering a greater area.
But hey, as far as I am concerned, all meetups are
TWikiMeetUpAtTellus, of course

Quite correct, it is indeed not a local Belgium meetup. FOSDEM is about european open source development: there'll be boots from
PostgreSQL, *BSD, Debian, Gnome, etc.. I actually thought it'd be nice to have a TWiki stand, but the deadline had long expired for requesting one.
So the meetup covers more ground than just Belgium. And i'm there anyway, so why not meet up there. There's bound to be more TWiki folk around.
So, anyone got a lightning presentation somewhere?

I am sorry, but Brussels is too far for me. Maybe next time.

Martin, np, the idea was to see who is attending FOSDEM anyway, and get together. So far, it seems Rod and I will be the only active TWiki folk attending, not much of a meetup yet

Ps: since this topic died out a bit, i didn't apply for a lightning talk, and we're too late for that now anyway.. Seems they had twice as many applications as slots anyway.

FOSDEM is actually a good way to have a reach in the developer world, IMHO. It's a shame that TWiki never saw this as an opportunity.
Either way, I'll be there to check out what's the latest.

Too bad we won't make a speech there. Maybe next year. I would be interested by the Drupal speech. I see them as direct TWiki competitor.

Wellll, fosdem is getting closer. How about this:
on saturday there is a small 'lunch' slot from 13:15 - 13:45, with
relatively
few talks going on. What about TWiki-
lunch
?
If anyone is interested, my mobile no is +31-6-24707813, give me a call if you are near the designated lunch area round that time. You can find my picture on

How did it go?

This was probably the smallest meetup ever, with just me and Kwang present

It was good to meet though. I think we both agreed fosdem was a missed opportunity for twiki, it is
the european open source developers community. I think we should start thinking about our presence there next year, what we want to accomplish with it and how we can do so.
I heard next years fosdem will be bigger, more space for booths yet again. A full room will be way too ambitious i think, but at least a talk in one of the other tracks or a lightning talk should be possible. And, of course, getting more TWiki developers there! I've heard it said repeatedly that most TWiki dev's are from eu, so that should not be too difficult.

Smallest and quickest I reckon. Haha
It sure was a fun event, but unfortunate that TWiki couldn't be there. Yes, I agree with Koen that we should have at least a lightning talk, and possibly a booth to promote TWiki somehow with some demos and merchandises.
