Twiki need a server?

I have seen that TWiki org has a few server problems. Maybe I can be of assistance?

My webhost is large and extremely capable. I have worked closely with http://nexcess.net for over a year now. I got them in as an official Movable Type hosting partner as well which they appreciated a lot..

See also as capabilities example:

http://nexcess.net/interworx/

This could give TWiki org the ability not only to have its own server, but also to be a TWiki hosting service, along this line someone else decided this kind of thing was a good idea, Expression Engine:

I took the liberty of asking nexcess.net what they could offer twiki org if twiki "just happened to be looking for a server". I also went heavy on exposure for them in the larger enterprise community, and the fact that twiki was open source and not exactly having millions of $'s.

Quote:

"Is there any way that you could offer them some server somewhere? Either for part of TWiki.org or all of it? I could get you the details if you like, I haven't said anything there about this. It would really promote nexcess.net in some very large places, could be an opportunity for you guys to become famous. Some payment no payment a million $ ???"

Their response in part:

"We could absolutely help out. Just let me know what they need and we can setup a special deal for the whole system. I'm happy to do it at (or very nearly) cost depending on what they need specifically.

Thanks, as always, for thinking of us!

Was just a thought on my part to see what they would do.

Feedback? Interested? It is quite an offer

I had been thinking along these lines also recently and was wondering: has anyone laid out, or does anyone know what TWiki.org's hosting requirements currently are? Space, bandwidth, etc.

I would hate to see this topic get lost, this is a huge offer, not just a little place on a server...

please bear with us, there are outside pressures that are stopping us from dealing with this offer at the moment frown (I was hoping that we would be able to reply by now)

Thanks Sven, understood now. Thought you guys were nuts or something wink

-- BruceRProchnau - 24 Apr 2005

no, not nuts, but we're definatly increadibly cautious, and unfortuanatly busy with other commitments. the NTWiki machine for example was going to be our new twiki server, but has been found to be a bit unstable (though this might be resolved now), so we're hesitant to try things.

Our ideal solution would be to get some coporate sponsorship from one of the large Enterprises that use TWiki (and we had one offer so for that has not worked out yet)..

Well, nexcess offered a server at cost. They are easy to deal with and very tech inclined (didI say that? lol). It may be worth it to see what they are willing to do? And how much?

Sorry for my late reply, this is one of the many topics I missed. Bruce, that sounds like an offer worth looking into. Nevertheless, in the mean time we found a co-location and probably also the hardware, see TheNewTWikiDotOrgServer.
