Average downloads, month by month
NOTES:
- Multiple downloads by the same IP address are reduced to one download. Some machines download the same package over and over again in rapid succession. Without this, 2006-07 has 27229 downloads instead of 9372 (as of 2006-07-25)
- Daily statistics are generated automatically by a script
- Monthly statistics are updated manually (at the beginning of a month, run report of previous month and update the table)

Discussions
I created statistics from all access logs I could find, starting July last year when we moved twiki.org to the new V240 server.
One can see that February 2006 had a big boost, when TWiki 4 was released. After that slowing down a bit as expected, and now ramping up again. This is a good sign.
Download statistics is one proxy for TWiki popularity. One area we need to improve is the ratio of downloads to successful wiki deployments (conversion rate). I have a hunch that we can improve the conversion rate a lot, based on the feedback we get on how difficult it is to install TWiki for people not familiar with webserver aministration. Unfortunately it is difficult to quantify the conversion rate.

I noticed an unusual high download on 2007-01-01 of 923. It turned out that three IP addresses (61.187.53.135, 61.187.53.136, 61.187.53.137) accessed the package in alterations 1036 times in rapid succession. Excluding those addresses results in 193 actual downloads. I fixed the table. The download agent identifies itself as "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)", so it is not easily to block.
