MetaKit
WHAT: MetaKit is the substrate the
Tcl'ers Wiki is built on. From the homepage:
MetaKit is an efficient embedded database library with a small footprint. It fills the gap between flat-file, relational, object-oriented, and tree-structured databases, supporting relational joins, serialization, nested structures, and instant schema evolution.
PROS: Well developed and mature.
CONS: As near as I can tell, you can't attach files or use inline images (though you can use images outside of the Wikit database). And the version control is not very mature relative to TWiki.
LICENSE: X/MIT style open source.
WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?: The whole wiki and the software needed to use it is contained in one single easily transportable file, called a
Wikit. The really cool thing (for me) is that it can be used as a standalone desktop application.
There is also a neat feature called
expand. When clicked it appends the contents of all the wiki pages linked to in the main topic to the end of the page.
