Help Categorize Codev!
Wikis have a nice convention to categorize content organically:
CategoryCategory.
Please help in making it easier to find content by tagging topics with a category. As documented in CategoryCategory, write "Category<category name>"
in the RelatedTopics form field - for example, "CategoryEditing".

How about a Folksonomy approach of del.icio.us free keywords in a meta field on each topic? And... how can we make it so people don't have to type Category before everything, nor need to go through the edit cycle.
- "folksonomy" (in contrast to taxonomy), a style of collaborative categorization of sites using freely chosen keywords, often referred to as tags. Tagging allows for the kind of multiple, overlapping associations that the brain itself uses, rather than rigid categories. In the canonical example, a Flickr photo of a puppy might be tagged both "puppy" and "cute"--allowing for retrieval along natural axes generated user activity. - http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/oreilly/tim/news/2005/09/30/what-is-web-20.html

Idea: We could create a Plugin to easily pick a category and add it to the
RelatedTopics field.
As you might have noticed, I started with the categorization of the Codev web. Good timing for
PluginsNeedCategorizing too.
If we all help categorize Codev and Plugins we will have a much better browsing experience on twiki.org!

Maybe Ive missed discussion elsewhere, but there seems to be a significant amount of overlap between Categories and Tags.
So are we using Categories or Tags or both?? If both, do we have any guidelines about when to use one or the other??

Tags have largly replaced the
CategoryCategory system. Some people prefer to use
CategoryCategories, so it is OK to continue supporting them. I suggest to tag content because (a) it is easier than an edit/type/save action, (b) works across all webs, (c) returns tag searches with a meaninful ranking. The Plugins web and TWiki doc web are well tagged at this time, but additional tag voting activity is apprciated to improve the search ranking. The Codev web needs more tagging in general.
