Possible Solutions:

• when saving a Topic a check could be made for updating the parent meta tag of any deleted or added Topics to the Topic based on the diff between new and current.
• Perhaps a cronjob or manual update to check the parenting of all topics and assign a parent or match a parent to Topics where the tag is incorrect.
• A function for updating the current Topic to check it's parenting, this could be a tickbox in the save function.
