Feature Proposal: Current configure assumes individual install

Motivation

I would like the /bin and /lib directories to be easily share by multiple virtual hosts.

Description and Documentation

The way things are set up, configure assumes a complete install in each vhost. This is a maintenance nightmare for me as admin, since it means updating umpteen installs when a new version is released.
