Bug: Request confirmation for topic deletion
Three things are certain:
Death, taxes, and lost data.
Guess which has occurred.
Happily, it was only the Sandbox. There are times when Wiki's "everyone can do anything" philosophy is a royal pain. This was one of those times.
I would appreciate the addition of a confirmation screen for something as permanent as a topic deletion. Especially a topic that has an
RCS revision history.
At the
very minimum, I'd like to see TWiki request confirmation for deletion of the
WebHome topic. Ouch. Well, at least it was only the Sandbox
Last request: if TWiki is going to blithely allow me to shoot myself in the foot, could it please not delete the
RCS ,v files as well? I have server access. I could have gotten my file back from the
WebHome.txt,v file but no, it's quite gone too, thank you.

Follow up
Are you sure it's gone, Vicki? Twiki actually makes it pretty hard to
completely delete a topic - the normal "delete topic" process only sends the topic to the
Trash Web. Have you checked there to see if your lost data is there?

1) It's not there (there is a
WebHome in the Trash web but it's a November version for a different web)
2) that wouldn't solve the problem as stated, especially with a name that isn't unique, such as
WebHome
3) thanks anyway

You might look around the Trash web (maybe do a search for content) since perhaps the name is changed during delete process. Don't know what else to suggest.

Vicki, is this reproducible? If yes, can you be persuaded to enter just a few lines descriping the test case?
That would be very helpful, thank you.
- In a default installation, you simply get a
"Cannot rename to WebHome because it already exists." error if you try to delete
Sandbox.WebHome without giving it a new name - not the error you describe.
(Regarding the
.txt and
.txt,v files they are never deleted by TWiki, but always moved in pairs. Delete is just a special case of move - a move to the Trash web. At least that would be the intention, and how it works by me. Please prove otherwise

As you may have guessed, I'm not really anxious to try to reproduce this. Nor would my IT group be particularly happy if I were to play this way.
It occurred; I was shocked; we restored from backup.
