I've noticed that some sites can change icon in title from standard IE to something custom: how I can do that? I would like to see directly on windows taskbar little robot icon when twikiing on TWiki.org site, and company's logo when twikiing at our home site...

Have a look at
Google:favicon
, there are a lot of sites and tools to help you create such icons, which are also used by
MozillaBrowser and Konqueror.

Thank you,
RichardDonkin. I got what I asked for - but now I want more.

Favicon changes icon in favorites. Is it possible to change icon in taskbar? I am even willing to switch from IE to Opera or Mozilla (fed up with 8 point hardcoded fonts, as mentioned elsewhere). Heck, I'll may even switch to Linux. Now I have two monitors (dual head), my taskbar is way too long and all are IE tasks. I would like to distinguish at least tasks browsing our own intranet site. Is it possible?

Not sure about using them in task bar - I know Mozilla's tabbed browsing pages do use the favicon. Tabbed browsing means you get one Mozilla button in task bar, which hides several tabs within the Mozilla window, each of which is a different web page. Opera has the same thing but I'm not sure if it uses favicons like this.
I tried out the
favicon.ico today and it worked OK. The trick is to put it in the root directory of the domain (i.e., next to TWiki.org's
index.html page) - even if IE checks other directories, this is the main place that it looks for it.
I did create a favicon from the
HighResolutionLogos but it looked fairly horrible - someone with graphics skills needs to come up with a version that works well at 16x16. I would like to see another favicon based on
HighResolutionLogos, to provide a more 'corporate' icon to live on people's IE toolbars

I did what I think is an acceptable favicon.ico. Checked in to
DevelopBranch.

http://developer.apple.com/internet/safari/safari_faq.html#anchor7
says
<link rel="icon" href="%FAVICON%" type="image/x-icon" />
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="%FAVICON%" type="image/x-icon" />
(this combination of statements probably ensures maximum compatability)

i've checked the above
head fragment into
SVN (revision 3257), updating files
templates/twiki.tmpl and
twiki.pattern.tmpl.
in DEVELOP r3377, i've added a new twiki variable to
TWiki.TWikiPreferences --
FAVICON. the default setting in
TWiki.TWikiPreferences is to use
favicon.ico from each web's
WebPreferences topic. i've also added appropriate placeholders in _default, and linked the icon for Sandbox, Trash, and Main to the icon attached to
TWiki.WebPreferences
