Some thoughts:

I've read that mission statement and in particular the KISS a few times already in lots of discussions. They (the KISS ones) all end up in... - well I don't know if they ever end up in something else then well meant Ideas and intentions.. (well, this statement is a bit too harsh).

TWiki is developer driven for some understandable reasons. But as a result TWiki "out of the box" and TWiki.org are both looking exactly like that.

Take a look at the success of Apples iPod and iPhone. The way they are presented and styled are the complete opposite to twiki. I know, it's not really fair to compare them but the point is: these are some sexy and easy to use products (at least for many, many customers).

TWiki instead is presented like the "Eierlegende Wollmilchsau" (all-in-one device suitable for every purpose) and it's interface looks exactly like that.

But this surely isn't sexy: eier-legende-wollmilchsau.jpg
