/dev/dsp (Digital Signal Processor): The dsp device -- the device that acts as a surrogate for the dsp device driver -- you can write to it and read from it in "raw" format or mount it.
The dsp is a fairly new device that can act as a modem or sound card (the basis for things like Winmodems and Linmodems).
I made that definition up, and I'm not sure it's a real good one.
