Qmail is an
MTA. I might consider trying it, although I am more interested in postfix because it is is installed by default on Mandrake 7.2 (and 8.1) and it is simpler than sendmail. (I'm sure qmail is also simpler than sendmail, and may be simpler than postfix.) Even if I don't use qmail, it seems there is some good documentation out there for qmail which might help me even with postfix (to better understand email in general and some of the terms used).

Capabilities of Qmail
From
http://cr.yp.to/qmail.html
:
Replacement for sendmail: qmail supports host and user masquerading, full host hiding, virtual domains, null clients, list-owner rewriting, relay control, double-bounce recording, arbitrary RFC 822 address lists, cross-host mailing list loop detection, per-recipient checkpointing, downed host backoffs, independent message retry schedules, etc. qmail also includes a drop-in ``sendmail'' wrapper so that it will be used transparently by your current UAs.
