E-MAIL ADDRESSES AND IDENTITIES CUSTOMIZATION
Most e-mail programs allow you to have more than one
e-mail address and/or more than one
e-mail identity . Some e-mail programs treat them as the same function, (each
e-mail address is a completely different person) and other e-mail programs treat them as two separate functions, more than one
e-mail identity (person) can have more than one
e-mail address .
Choosing your
e-mail address should be done with some thought. For your close friends and relatives you may want to use one
e-mail address , the one that actually uses parts of your real name. For your business associates you may want to use another more professional sounding
e-mail address . To sign up to receive mailings from jokes, news, stocks, etc., you may want to consider using a third
e-mail address .
Usually you will have to sign on and switch identities or
e-mail addresses and check all of them to see if you have any new mail. There are some software programs available that will check all your
e-mail addresses at one time and let you know which have e-mails waiting for you to read.
You can also use a third party
e-mail address software program such as Eudora, which is a free download. (Note - AOL does not work with third party
e-mail address programs.)
There are also e-mail forwarding services that you can pay extra for to hide your real
e-mail address .
Again depending on your e-mail program, and your experiences with
e-mail addresses , will determine how your own
e-mail address preferences will develop.
