Question

Adding %COMMENT% inside a topic and saving causing TWiki to hang.

Environment

TWiki version: TWikiRelease2005x12x17x7873beta
TWiki plugins: CommentPlugin, EditTablePlugin, InterwikiPlugin, PreferencesPlugin, SlideShowPlugin, SmiliesPlugin, SpreadSheetPlugin, TablePlugin
Server OS: Mac OS X 10.39
Web server: Apache 1.3.33
Perl version: 5.8.1
Client OS: Windows XP SP2
Web Browser: IE 6.0 SP1
Categories: Plugins

I have ben trying to provide the ability to add comments to a topic.

  1. I edit the topic and place the %COMMENT% command at the end of the topic text.
  2. I then click Save.

The browser tries processing the save but never returns a new page, it just stays loading.

If I check the actual file on the server the topic has indeed been saved.

If I try to know view that topic, the browser again hangs and I can no longer access the topic.

What am I doing wrong? frown

Answer

ALERT! If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.

I just tried what you describe, with the same set of plugins, and I can't reproduce any lockup (it works for me). Please check your error_log for messages, and attach the text of your page here (before you add the comment)

Thanks

Not sure, but this might be related to Bugs:Item1338.

Please upgrade to latest beta, Doug.

Thank you for your comments! I am on a trip now but I will follow up on these on my return in a few weeks.

I have exactly the same behavior, although using a completly different setup: Win2003 Server, Apache2, Cygwin with Perl 5.8, and the latest TWiki 4.01.

I get exact the same result as described above. While the browser is loading the page, perl.exe is using 99-100% of CPU for about 6 minutes, and then disappears.

Error.log shows "Premature end of script headers". Any ideas?

Steffen, I don't think it has to do with Bugs.Item1338, as I don't have line breaks in the command.
