Question

If I am part of the TwikiAdminGroup but unable to modify or create new webs, what would be the cause? Typical message "Access Denied". Thanks

Please attach the output of testenv.cgi, plus a capture of the directory permissions where your twiki is stored.

Steve,

I work with George Sit. We appear to have addressed our problems which were:

1. We were unable to modify the TWikiAdminGroup - even though we were members of this group.

2. As a result of #1 above, we (as TWikiAdminGroup members) were unable to create new Webs.

Here is what we did to address the problems, although I wonder if we solved them the right way ...

We went into the twiki/data/Main directory in our Twiki Unix installation and deleted the TwikiAdminGroup.lock file. We were then able to edit TWikiAdminGroup which we were unable to do previously. The secondary problem which was related to this access problem also went away - that is, we are now able to create new Webs.

Any comments on what we did?

The only possible reason I can think of not being able to edit the TWikiAdminGroup topic is that the .lock file was not writable by the cgi user on your server.

I do not have an explanation why removing the .lock file solved the issue of not being able to create a new web. I do not see any correlation.
