Is there a TWikiSolarisInstallFAQ? Should there be one?

Installation of TWiki on Solaris box took quite a bit more time and effort than a Linux box. Appears Solaris install requires GNU tools for a number of items not listed in TWiki install docs. Would be helpful to people new to TWiki to have these requirements listed in the install docs.

As a start, I don't see "GNU diff" listed as a requirement. Had problems with TWiki until I grabbed "diffutils" from www.sunfreeware.com

Also, pathing was a little bit different for solaris.

I'm still very new to Solaris, and I'm sure I caused myself a few headaches there...

There isn't such a FAQ, but by all means create a Codev.TWikiOnSolaris page, ideally from Codev.TWikiOn since that links to various platform-specific pages.

The main docs should mention GNU diff and any other required packages as a dependency - since this is a Wiki, put a comment at the end of the relevant page, and that should make sure this change gets into the docs. Also worth putting in a pointer to the TWiki:Codev/TWikiOnSolaris page.

I've updated testenv in the TWikiAlphaRelease so that it checks for diff and warns if GNU diff is not installed. See CVSget:bin/testenv if you want to install a copy. I'm also creating TWikiOnSolaris, linked from TWikiOnUnix.

There is nowadays the SolarisInstallCookbook which answers all the questions mentioned in this topic - and others too.

Addendum to the question:

The TWiki Solaris Cookbook has not been updated for 5.0.1 (or 5.0 for that matter) ... do we know if anyone is working on such a beast?

The Solaris cookbook probably needs some TLC. I do not know anyone working on it, you could take the ball! TWiki is an open source project, we appreciate users taking and giving back.
