Question
Hi,
I've recently had TWiki installed on my webserver by my webmaster. I'm not too sure how to actually setup my first TWiki page, at this point.
I haven't found any documentation on how to actually do this. If there is something that I am missing, or should read, would you please direct me.
I should be fine once the first page is setup, but this is a bump in the road that I'm having a hard time getting over.
Thanks,
Ryan

Answer
When you go to
http://my.twiki.domain.com
, what do you get returned? You should get the default
WebHome, which is
Main. Does this not happen?

Are you asking how to create your first TWiki page? Edit a page, invent a
NewWikiWordNeverUsedBefore, save the page, then click on the question mark to create that new page.

Well, guess Ryan knows how to create topics, I think his question is about proper configuration of the Web server so that by entering
http://my.twiki.domain.com/ he gets to
http://my.twiki.domain.com/bin/view/Main/WebHome. Right Ryan?

I guess we won't really know until Ryan answers back, hmmm?

Just installed TWiki on my Linux box this weekend. Possibly got the same problem...
I could access the TWiki Webs as installed, but apart from playing in the Sandbox, I did not want to 'corrupt' the installed Webs. I created a user. I could not find the way of logging in so I could use that user. I then tried to create a new Web, but got an access denied message.
I eventually changed the following line in the data/TWiki/TWikiPreferences file to remove the authorisation... Yes I know this is dangerous if connected to the outside world.
* Set ALLOWWEBMANAGE =
This was not too clear in the documentation, and I have not read too much about the authorisation process yet.

I'm in the same boat. You can see my new wiki at
http://wiki.matureasskickers.net/
. I want to split it into a couple of private areas for team and leader work (two levels of access control), plus some public webs for outsiders to use. I don't think I want to use Main for any of these, though. Main seems more like the place to keep the user database, but nothing else.

In the case that this is an information architecture question it might be helpful to look at a few TWiki sites to see how they have made decisions on what will be the entry'home page for the TWiki. Some people seem to use the WebHome page of the Main web to put in home page type information (for example
http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Main/WebHome
) , while others set up a new web that acts as the central/core web of the site (
http://www.lavrsen.dk/twiki/bin/view/Motion/WebHome
) and use the WebHome page of that new web as the home page for the whole of the TWiki.
It seems that the home page of websites is a key metaphor that users carry with them when they start to use a TWiki. The title - Main web - semantically, seems to be the
prepackaged web that most closely matches the meaning of a home page. There's been a discussion on the use/meaning of the Main web for a while that might be of interest -
