SID-01849: Unable to number captions when using ImagePlugin

I am attempting to use this plugin in the captions of the ImagePlugin (something like "*Figure ##f#.*: Some text about a graphic").

The figures are all numbered "Figure 3:".

I added some debug logging to the plugin's makeExplicitNumber function and it appears that it is called three times for each caption. When I use "##a#." in the topic's text, however, the same function is only called once.
