Question

We frequently have e-mails that go out with a link to a twiki page. The problem is that the e-mail is breaking the link into two lines (due to the length of the url). When the e-mail recipient clicks on the link they are prompted to enter their twiki user name and password. I have looked at other sites that seem to handle this problem well. How can I remedy this problem.

Environment

TWiki version: TWikiRelease02Sep2004
TWiki plugins: DefaultPlugin, EmptyPlugin, InterwikiPlugin
Server OS: RedHat Linux
Web server: apache
Perl version: 5.8.7
Client OS: MS Windows XP service pack 2
Web Browser: IE

ALERT! If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.

Use TinyURL.

There is a plugin available for FireFox that takes care of the conversion

I am not sure, Anton might be referring to http://www.roundtwo.com/product/tinyurl

Breaking apart long URLs is an Outlook "feature", most other mail clients leave long URLs alone. Ask your IT department to switch to a better mail client such as Thunderbird smile

See ShorterUrlCookbook and ShorterURLs.
