Question
I want to be able to launch other applications, particularly Adobe Acrobat, from a link in Twiki.
I'm doing this so I can start using Twiki as a place to review drawings. Right now I have a topic with links to several PDF files. People can click on the link to see the drawing, but the drawing is opened up within Internet Explorer. This means they can't use Adobe's markup or signature features since the file can't be saved. Any comments they have need to typed in a comment box and then I have to interprete what they meant, which is not always an easy thing.
I know I can save the file locally, do my markups, corrections, etc., and then reload the file using the "More topic actions". This is too many steps for most of our people to do.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Answer
If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.
For that specific case, it isn't a server setting, or even a browser setting: it's actually an Adobe client setting: Edit > Preferences > Internet > Disable PDF in browser.

In the Internet Explorer adobe can be also disabled. In Tools\Internet Options\Programs\Manage Add-ons disable Adobe PDF Reader and the pdf files will download with the option of Open, Save and Cancel.

Fantastic!! Thanks for the help. To continue this thread, what about launching other applications, like Excel or a DOS batch file? I do not see a "Disable PDF in browser" type setting in Excel.
