Question

We want to be able to attach certain Word and Excel documents to a TWiki page and then the user be able to open the attached document from TWiki, edit it, and save it back to TWiki. We cannot figure out how to do this. Obviously the user has to have Word or Excel on their computer to do this but when we go to edit and save the document it tries to save it to the hard drive. We have not been able to make any changes get saved in the TWiki attachment. We had understood from the TWiki documentation that we could edit and save documents in TWIki. Can anyone help? We are running TWiki version TWiki-4.1.2, Sat, 03 Mar 2007, build 13046, Plugin API version 1.11 .

Environment

Answer

ALERT! If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.

  • Click on the office tool attachment to open the doc.
  • Make your changes.
  • Save the doc locally to a temp folder.
  • Re-attach the doc to the same page by clicking on the "manage" link of the attachment (this will preserve the file comment, if any)

There is also an out-of-date WebDAV integration that would allow you to edit & save a doc in place.
