Question
I read already
TWikiScalability and
TWikiServerHardwareRecommendations but I think they didn't fit so great to our case.
I'm a member of MTP e.V. (a student association in Germany) and we have to rebuild our IT. We like TWiki and so we want to use it, but want to be sure to use matching hardware.
The numbers:
- 2000-2500 members (of course not all active)
- 100-150 user at the same time (max)
- We have already a lot of data. At the moment it is hard to tell (for me), but I think it will be 5-15 new Pages per day + comments.
- As base we will use a Linux or a (open)BSD.
Thx for any help.

If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.
Normally, a single machine should suffice. Recommendations:
- Get as much memory as possible. Linux uses all unused memory as disc cache. 4G would be nice.
- Multicore will definitely help, as each request has its own process
- Fast disks will help
So, normally, a modern dual or quad-core machine with 4G ram and 7500rpm would be fine to get started.
Then, if you see performance problems, you could go with faster disks, but it depends if you have time or money. If you have time, using a second web server to serve static parts of TWiki (the images, css and javascript of the skin), or serving the pub/ dir can be obvious solutions, but there will be lots of way to optimize things before resorting to faster hardware.
