Question
I can't get configure to run through my browser (I don't have shell access to my web server)
I have tried renaming configure to configure.pl
My server does have Perl and tons of modules prepackaged with it, but i do not see a place i can check settings on my HTTP cpanel
(I also have my chmod perms set so that i should be able to execute it)
What am I doing wrong?

Answer
If you answer a question - or someone answered one of your questions - please remember to edit the page and set the status to answered. The status selector is below the edit box.
First of all, you should give some more help:
- What is the error message of "can't get configure to run"? Even if you don't have access to the server's error log, there must be something in your browser.
- What assumptions does the web server make regarding CGIs (file names, locations)
- Can you run other CGI programs?

hi thanks for your reply!
i don't get an error message, i should have said in my first post that i just see the code displayed of the configuration file instead of it running
i have not tried running any other cgi programs, but there is a cgi-bin for my public_html, and my cpanel says the perl paths are /usr/bin/perl
what else do you mean by assumptions? unfortunately they don't give me much more information

if you are seeing the code, then you need to find out what your hosting providor needs to have done to run perl cgi's. Some require certain permissions, other require the files to be in particular directories, or to have particular extensions etc - but there are too many options for us to guess
