xmms is a program to play audio cds -- both standard / commercial (i.e., .wav files) and mp3s, IIUC.
It can display cd titles from the
CDDB database (no longer free -- so use freedb.org, as below):
Preferences -> Audio I/O Plugins tab -> CD Reader Configuration
server: freedb.org
port:888
cgi path: /~cddb/cddb.cgi

Right click on xmms Options>Preferences
There is a choice of two CD player plugins:
- Cd Audio Player (for use with an analogue cable)
- Audio CD Reader (for digital playing through IDE
You need the xmms-cdresd plugin.
Whichever plugin is enabled just highlight it and select 'Configure'.
